Cut It Out!

No I'm not referring to Dave's annoying joke on "Full House".
And no I'm not shaming you for wearing that shamrock on your head.
Cut outs are the hot new trend, and as you can see, I'm a fan.

It's the hot trend for dresses this season too.  Prom in particular!

Ooooooo La la!  So Pretty and DIFFERENT, right?!  I love the detailing on this dress!  Most of all, I love that the cut out is in an unusual but flattering place, above the tummy, and what is usually considered to be the smallest part of the female body.

As usual, "flattering" is KEY!  There are tons of different styles of cut out dresses.  But just because one looks really good on the model, doesn't mean it's the right dress for you.  And that's O.K. because there is a right one out there for you!

The beauty of life is that we are different with our own unique traits.

I DO NOT BELIEVE IN "THE PERFECT BODY".  Celebrities have expensive surgeries and air brushing to make themselves "perfect".  But still, who says what is perfect??  US!

So us normal people need to PLAY UP OUR FAVORITE PARTS!  The beauty of playing up our strengths is that the rest just kind of fades away and you end up looking and feeling amazing!

US REAL PEOPLE NEED TO PLAY UP THE BODY PARTS WE LOVE AND THE REST WILL JUST FADE AWAY❤️

So... If you have a tiny waist, get that dress with the side cut outs!  If you have great cleavage, this is the time to play it up!  (To a point though because ain't no one ever looked good classy with half their boobs hanging out!)  And girlfriend, if you love your legs, skip the cut outs altogether and get a short, classy number.

MOST OF ALL, HAVE FUN!

Dress To Impress

I have learned to embrace the fact that I'm weird.  I laugh at absurd, inappropriate jokes.  I will eat almost anything, including shiritaki noodles.  I adore working out so hard that I feel like a 90 year old afterward. And I love to dress up!

I'm sure I wasn't always this way.  I'm sure that when I was a wee girl I loved my footed pajamas and Strawberry Shortcake onesie as much as the next girl.

But as soon as I could steal my older brother's cool sweater (I am the only girl between two brothers) I did.  And as soon as I could find bad ass boots, you can bet your ass I rocked em.

I remember being the girl in High School that people were like, "she's wearing that???".  Because at that point I loved the fact that clothes made me unique, but I hadn't quite figured out how to "Make It Work", as Tim Gunn urges us all.

But at least I was trying!

If I could demand a dollar from every girl sporting pajama pants or sweatpants at the mall, I would be a self made millionaire by now! Seriously!
What is wrong with us, girls?!!

Me and my kids just watched the movie, Pollyanna.  Not only does the movie endear you with innocent, well written screenplay, it endears you with the beautiful clothes!  And it got me thinking that it's high time we bring back some style up in here!

Dressing to impress doesn't necessarily mean expensive, pretentious clothing.

Here is a list of ways you can dress to impress with little extra effort:

1. Play up one part of your body at a time.  This means that if you just bought a shorter skirt to show off your GRIT legs, wear a modest top.  Modest meaning for sure covering up that cleavage and tummy and making sure the top is classy in nature.

2.  When in doubt, go subtler in your look.  We can all get super excited and nostalgic when fluorescent colors or band t shirts come back in style, but that doesn't mean we should go hog wild.  There is something to be said for edgy. And the whole point of that term means you are teetering on the edge but not falling off it entirely into a caricature.

3.  Use accessories to make an outfit "pop".  Go to any clothing store and you will find TONS of accessories, usually close to the checkout counter.  Don't be afraid of this section!  It is your friend.  Take in the whole area and then notice where your eye is drawn.  Focus in on those areas and pick out statement pieces and staples such as stud earrings and bangle bracelets.

4.  If you're not "feelin it", meaning you don't feel like putting forth the effort to put a cool outfit together, just wear black.  Everyone knows black is slimming, but it's also neutral and easy to match to just about anything.  As long as you don't decide to go goth every day of the week, wearing black can get you through just about any bad day.

5.  If it makes you feel happy and confident, it's probably good.  You'll notice I said happy AND CONFIDENT.  If you're just happy, you might be wearing sweatpants and Crocs and NO ONE SHOULD FEEL CONFIDENT IN THOSE. PERIOD.

❤️You Are Welcome❤️

For the Birds!

I'm unsure of what went wrong since my last post.  I was clearly declaring the beginning of Spring to the Universe.  Nebraska didn't "miss the memo" so to speak, It flushed the memo down the toilet.

But I'm not giving up.  I will not concede my quest for warmer weather to this ridiculous tunnel of polar wind.

I WILL ROCK MY SHORTS AND FLIP FLOPS LIKE I AM DAISY DUKE WITH A BIGGER NOSE AND THE WRONG COLORED HAIR.

Here is My List of Top Ten Spring Must Haves for When Spring Decides To Leave Florida Spring Break to Retire Quietly and Peacefully in Nebraska:

Spring This Joint Up!

Don't you just love Nebraska in late winter?  I, for one, live for dirty piles of snow, depressing gray skies, and below zero temps.  It's like a cold, dark hell made just for me.  Ahhhhhhh.

I don't know about you beautiful girls, but I'm ready to break out some spring tops and throw caution to the wind!  I'm ready to unleash my toes!  (Well, after a loooong, expensive pedicure, maybe).  I'm ready to show some leg! (After a few trips to get spray tanned, i.e. Expensive water torture, of course).  BUT... come nasty heels or white legs, I Will Pretend Spring Is Coming!

Let's do this together;). Let's slowly claw our way out of Winter Hell and freeze our butts off in a united front to BRING SEXY SPRING BACK!

How does one break out the Spring clothes without looking insane, you ask??

Literally:  ONE BEAUTIFUL PIECE AT A TIME.

Get out your favorite black top with a subtle floral print.  Or grab that pretty green top that makes you feel fresh and young!  Then throw on a fun skirt or lighter pair of pants, a light weight sweater or jacket and you're good to go!

Mix it up!  Pair some funky boots with some crop pants!  Wear your new strappy sandals with a pair of sleek slacks!

JUST DON'T GO ALL SPRING AT ONCE.

Nothing screams, "I'm desperate and I don't care who knows it" like putting on your new full spring ensemble from Kohl's.

TAKE IT SLOW.  Pretend you are the new kid at school trying to be cool.  If you come in like a wrecking ball with white crop pants and bright pink sweater sets, the cool kids will see you coming a mile away and while they may not say it, they are thinking, "Poor, sweet girl!  Well she tries doesn't she?!"

Repeat after Me:

No Style By Caroline Reader will be pitied!  We will BRING SEXY SPRING BACK slooowly and sweetly and one rockin Spring piece at a time.  Because we are strong, confident fashionistas!

Le invitamos!
