Dress To Impress

I have learned to embrace the fact that I'm weird.  I laugh at absurd, inappropriate jokes.  I will eat almost anything, including shiritaki noodles.  I adore working out so hard that I feel like a 90 year old afterward. And I love to dress up!

I'm sure I wasn't always this way.  I'm sure that when I was a wee girl I loved my footed pajamas and Strawberry Shortcake onesie as much as the next girl.

But as soon as I could steal my older brother's cool sweater (I am the only girl between two brothers) I did.  And as soon as I could find bad ass boots, you can bet your ass I rocked em.

I remember being the girl in High School that people were like, "she's wearing that???".  Because at that point I loved the fact that clothes made me unique, but I hadn't quite figured out how to "Make It Work", as Tim Gunn urges us all.

But at least I was trying!

If I could demand a dollar from every girl sporting pajama pants or sweatpants at the mall, I would be a self made millionaire by now! Seriously!
What is wrong with us, girls?!!

Me and my kids just watched the movie, Pollyanna.  Not only does the movie endear you with innocent, well written screenplay, it endears you with the beautiful clothes!  And it got me thinking that it's high time we bring back some style up in here!

Dressing to impress doesn't necessarily mean expensive, pretentious clothing.

Here is a list of ways you can dress to impress with little extra effort:

1. Play up one part of your body at a time.  This means that if you just bought a shorter skirt to show off your GRIT legs, wear a modest top.  Modest meaning for sure covering up that cleavage and tummy and making sure the top is classy in nature.

2.  When in doubt, go subtler in your look.  We can all get super excited and nostalgic when fluorescent colors or band t shirts come back in style, but that doesn't mean we should go hog wild.  There is something to be said for edgy. And the whole point of that term means you are teetering on the edge but not falling off it entirely into a caricature.

3.  Use accessories to make an outfit "pop".  Go to any clothing store and you will find TONS of accessories, usually close to the checkout counter.  Don't be afraid of this section!  It is your friend.  Take in the whole area and then notice where your eye is drawn.  Focus in on those areas and pick out statement pieces and staples such as stud earrings and bangle bracelets.

4.  If you're not "feelin it", meaning you don't feel like putting forth the effort to put a cool outfit together, just wear black.  Everyone knows black is slimming, but it's also neutral and easy to match to just about anything.  As long as you don't decide to go goth every day of the week, wearing black can get you through just about any bad day.

5.  If it makes you feel happy and confident, it's probably good.  You'll notice I said happy AND CONFIDENT.  If you're just happy, you might be wearing sweatpants and Crocs and NO ONE SHOULD FEEL CONFIDENT IN THOSE. PERIOD.

❤️You Are Welcome❤️
